Waste Connections Suspends Bulk Item Pick-Up Effective 4/27
Effective April 27, 2020, the Borough of Carlisle’s solid waste and recycling hauler, Waste Connections, will be suspending curbside collection of bulk items until further notice.
Consistent with other waste haulers* in the immediate area, Waste Connections is pausing the bulk item pick-up service in response to the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Suspending this activity is another measure taken to help mitigate the sanitation industry’s exposure to the virus and allow their employees to continue the essential service of trash and recycling collection.
While Waste Connections’ employees are provided the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) for handling trash bags and recycling containers, bulk items often come in contact with other areas of the body and require more than one staff member to lift and dispose of the item. Temporarily suspending this activity allows Waste Connections’ staff to continue to follow proper social distancing guidelines and reduces the risk of potential health hazards.
Residents who wish to dispose of a bulk item may do so the week of April 20, understanding that the item must be placed curbside 24 hours in advance of their regular pick up day. Only those bulk items that are placed curbside on the resident’s regular trash/recycling collection day will be picked up.
The Borough will continue to monitor the situation and work closely with the hauler on potential options should CV-19 measures be extended for a prolonged period of time.
*Note: Bulk item collection is currently suspended in North Middleton, South Middleton, and Dickinson Townships as well.
